How the calculator works
Four cost categories, each estimated using widely accepted research figures. These are sector averages — your specific number will differ. The Business Performance Review finds the real one.
Retention cost
Number of employees × turnover rate × (75% of average salary). Replacing a mid-level employee typically costs 50% to 200% of annual salary in recruitment, onboarding, and productivity loss during transition.
Productivity loss
Approximately 25% of UK employees report financial worries or engagement issues affecting their performance, costing roughly three hours of focused output per week per affected employee.
Absence cost
UK average sickness absence is 9.4 days per employee. Roughly 20% of that absence is linked to stress, financial pressure and disengagement. Daily salary cost × stress-linked absence × workforce size.
Benefits waste
Average UK employer spends roughly £800 per employee per year on benefits. Around 15% of that is typically unused or poorly understood, a clear inefficiency in most pension and benefits arrangements.
These are estimates. The Review finds the real number.
The Business Performance Review runs across four short stages from initial conversation to written proposal, and produces a written summary you can take to your senior team or board. It is provided at no cost, with no commitment invited until the proposal stage.
